2011 Brittan Vineyards Syrah

This is the fourth vintage of Brittan Vineyards Syrah. The Syrah was planted in 2005, replacing two blocks of Pinot Meunier that had been planted by the previous vineyard owners. This part of the vineyard has the heaviest concentration of broken basalt, resulting in low-yielding vines producing intence flavors and layers of complexity.

Tasting Notes: The 2011 Syrah entices with a nose of red currant, black cherry, plum and cassis. With a juicy attack of sweet red fruit, the wine smoothly transitions to a focused mid-palate with a long, lingereing finish or Italian plums, black raspberries and a hint of fennel seed and sweet pipe tobacco.

Production Notes: The fruit for the 2011 vintage was picked in early November and allowed to cold soak for five days before fermentation began. The wine was aged in approximately 36% new French oak for 16 months.
