2015 Brittan Vineyards Syrah 1.5L

This is the eighth vintage of Brittan Vineyards Syrah. The Syrah was planted in 2005, replacing two blocks of Pinot Meunier that had been planted by the previous vineyard owners. This part of the vineyard has the heaviest concentration of broken basalt, resulting in low-yielding vines producing intense flavors and layers of complexity.

Vintage Notes: 2015 started out moderate, then showed some heat in mid-summer, followed by a relatively cooler fall. This allowed for good fruit maturity without high alcohol, resulting in wines that are elegant and nuanced. They are sure to gratify the palate now, as well as in the years to come..

Tasting Notes: On the nose the 2015 Estate Syrah exhibits a complementary blend of fruits, spice and savory notes with aromas of white pepper, ocean brine, plum and truffle. This is confirmed on the palate with flavors of passion fruit, blueberry and juniper berry, all supported by a pleasant mix of cedar, allspice and caraway. A perfect balance of acid and tannin provide the structure for this age-worthy wine.

Production Notes: The fruit for the 2015 vintage was picked in early October and allowed to cold soak for five days before fermentation began. The wine was aged in French oak, 25% new, for 15 months.

Production: 4 cases of magnums
